Education Opportunities in Kisumu, Kenya
PMHS-USA supports educational opportunities in global health at Maseno University in Kisumu, Kenya, with a primary focus on pediatric and adult infectious diseases. Training is available for all levels of learners as part of a broader global network of clinicians and scientists working together to address critical public health challenges.
Through our partners, students gain experience through coursework, clinical rotations, and research. PMHS-USA also supports graduate-level PhD programs at Maseno University, involving training by clinical and research professors.
PMHS-USA supports community education programs that improve general health in underserved areas of Siaya County. These efforts focus on practical, locally relevant information that helps families prevent illness and seek care early.
Key programs include:
- Sickle Cell Disease Support Groups that provide education, counseling, and peer support for affected families
- Community-based WASH programs that teach safe water, sanitation, and hygiene practices to reduce waterborne diseases
- Malaria prevention education that promotes consistent use of insecticide-treated bed nets and encourages prompt medical care, especially for children under six
- Easy-to-follow pamphlets that explain the warning signs of malaria-related anemia (“low blood”) and other common infectious diseases
These materials and training sessions are delivered directly to community members, empowering families with the knowledge needed to protect their health.
