Where We Work
Rooted in Kenya, Advancing Global Health
Pediatric and Maternal Health Solutions (PMHS) was founded through more than 20 years of healthcare, research, training, and community engagement in western Kenya. Working alongside local partners, healthcare providers, and community leaders, we support programs that improve the health and well-being of children, mothers, and families in underserved communities.
Our work began in Siaya County, Kenya, a rural region along Lake Victoria where poverty, limited healthcare access, malnutrition, and infectious diseases continue to impact vulnerable populations. More than one million people live in the county, including approximately 200,000 children under five.
Through community-driven programs, PMHS advances maternal and child health, nutrition, infectious disease prevention, health education, and healthcare capacity building. By investing in local partnerships and sustainable solutions, we help strengthen communities and improve health outcomes.
PMHS USA supports these efforts through fundraising, strategic partnerships, volunteer engagement, and resource development, expanding the reach and impact of programs that serve vulnerable children and families.
The Health Challenges We Address
PMHS works to improve health outcomes among children, mothers, and underserved communities facing a disproportionate burden of disease, poverty, and limited access to healthcare. Through partnerships with local healthcare providers, researchers, community organizations, and government stakeholders, we address interconnected health challenges that contribute to preventable illness, disability, and death.
Malaria
Malaria remains one of the leading causes of illness and death among children in many parts of sub-Saharan Africa. Our programs support prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research, and capacity building to reduce the burden of malaria and its complications.
Maternal and Child Health
Many communities continue to face high rates of maternal and infant mortality due to limited access to prenatal care, skilled birth attendants, nutrition services, and pediatric healthcare. PMHS supports initiatives that improve health outcomes for mothers and children throughout the continuum of care.
HIV & AIDS
Despite major advances in prevention and treatment, HIV continues to impact vulnerable populations worldwide. PMHS supports programs focused on prevention, early diagnosis, treatment access, and long-term care.
Sickle Cell Disease
Sickle cell disease remains a major cause of childhood morbidity and mortality in many low-resource settings. PMHS works to improve awareness, screening, clinical management, research, and community support for affected children and families.
Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
Access to safe water and adequate sanitation is essential for preventing diarrheal diseases and improving overall health. PMHS supports community-based initiatives that promote clean water, sanitation infrastructure, and hygiene education.
Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)
Neglected tropical diseases continue to affect millions of people living in poverty. PMHS supports research, surveillance, prevention, and treatment programs aimed at reducing the burden of these diseases and improving quality of life.
Respiratory Infections
Respiratory diseases, including tuberculosis and pneumonia, remain leading causes of hospitalization and death in many underserved populations. PMHS supports efforts to strengthen diagnosis, treatment, and prevention programs.
Building Sustainable Solutions
Beyond addressing individual diseases, PMHS invests in healthcare infrastructure, workforce development, scientific research, community engagement, and health education to create sustainable improvements in health outcomes for future generations.
Why Community Partnerships Matter
At PMHS USA, we believe that lasting change begins with local leadership, community engagement, and sustainable partnerships. Rather than imposing outside solutions, we work alongside healthcare providers, educators, researchers, community organizations, and local leaders to develop programs that address real needs and create meaningful impact.
Our approach is built on the principle that the people closest to a challenge are often best positioned to identify effective solutions. By investing in local capacity, training, infrastructure, and community-driven initiatives, we help strengthen healthcare systems and improve outcomes for children, mothers, and families.
Through partnerships in Kenya and other underserved regions, PMHS supports programs that combine healthcare delivery, education, research, and community outreach to create sustainable improvements in health and well-being.
By building strong local partnerships today, we help create healthier, more resilient communities for generations to come.
